Successful Outcomes Require Careful Planning and Monitoring
Before, during, and after surgery your cat is carefully monitored by at least one of our experienced technicians. We work to maintain proper temperature and other vital signs. We have the abilities to monitor heart rate, respiratory rate, ECG, temperature, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, and end tidal carbon dioxide.

Sterilizing your cat is easy!
The Cat Care Clinic recommends spaying or neutering your cat by six months of age. The surgery is performed weekdays on an outpatient basis—your cat is dropped off from 7-7:30 am and can be released between 4-6 pm.
Surgery costs include pain relief, anesthetic, individually sterilized instruments, and technician monitoring during surgery and recovery. Your cat must have a current exam before the procedure (a separate fee). We are not a spay/neuter clinic and do not operate as an assembly line.
Benefits to having your cat spayed or neutered include:
- Living a longer, healthier life.
- Spaying female cats eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of breast cancer—particularly when the cat is spayed before the first heat cycle.
- Spayed and neutered pets are better, more affectionate companions.
- Neutered cats are less likely to spray and mark their territory. Their urine will not have the pungent, musky smell that can never be fully neutralized.
- Neutered and spayed cats tend to stay closer to home since they no longer have the urge to seek out a mate.
- Spaying a female cat eliminates her heat cycles. Females in heat cry incessantly, show nervous behavior, have decreased appetites, and attract unwanted male cats into your yard. Male cats will cry and howl to attract females in heat. They will also fight each other during competition for the female.
- Spayed and neutered cats are less likely to bite. Intact animals often exhibit more behavior and temperamental problems than those who are sterilized.
Excuses, Excuses…
It’s better to have one litter first.
Medical evidence supports the opposite. With each heat cycle, the risk of breast cancer increases. Cats that are never bred are just as happy and adjusted as their sexually-experienced counterparts.
But my pet is a purebred.
So is at least one out of every four animals brought into animal shelters around the country. There are just too many animals and too few homes.
I don’t want my male cat to feel less of a male.
Pets don’t have any concept of sexual identity or ego. Neutering a male cat will not change its basic personality. It doesn’t suffer any kind of emotional reaction or identity crisis when neutered. It is best to put your personal feelings aside and neuter your cat.
It’s too expensive to have my cat spayed or neutered.
The cost of spaying your cat is a bargain compared to the time and cost of raising a litter and ensuring the health of the mother and kittens. A female is pregnant about 9 weeks and the kittens need to care for an additional six to eight weeks. During this time feeding, flea control, deworming, and vaccination costs add up. Finding homes for kittens is not always easy. The cost of neutering a cat is much cheaper than the expense of treating even one abscess from a cat fight bite.
My cat will become fat and lazy.
The only way a cat becomes overweight and out of shape is through overfeeding and lack of exercise. Once cats have been sterilized, their metabolic rate does slow and their calorie intake needs to be decreased by 25%.
