Dr. Elaine Wexler-Mitchell – D.V.M.
Dr. Elaine Wexler-Mitchell is the owner and founder of The Cat Care Clinic. She received an undergraduate degree in biology from Cornell University and her D.V.M. degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1995 Dr. Wexler-Mitchell became board certified in feline practice-one of 25 charter ABVP diplomates. She is active in many veterinary organizations and served on the board of The American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Dr. Wexler-Mitchell is a published author and veterinary speaker. Aside from writing numerous magazine and newspaper articles, she has written three books: The Complete Idiot’s Guide to a Healthy Cat, Ask the Vet for Cats, and Guide to a Healthy Cat. She has also been on the committees that produced the AAFP Behavior Guidelines and the AAFP Feline Diabetes Toolkit.
Dr. Wexler-Mitchell and her husband Howard live with their two cats: Hannah and Grom. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, surfing, golf, and travel.
Dr. Cathryn Starr – D.V.M.
Dr. Cathryn Starr received her undergraduate degree with a major in biology and a minor in music from Smith College in Massachusetts and her D.V.M. degree from UC Davis in 1992. Prior to joining The Cat Care Clinic team in 1997, she worked for a feline-only house call practice in Los Angeles. Driving all over the Los Angeles area to bring health care to reclusive felines cemented her passion for working with cats. Dr. Starr is a member of AAFP, AVMA, and CVMA.
In her free time, Dr. Starr enjoys singing and performing in both classical and musical theatre venues. (Her favorite role is Mrs. Anna in Rogers and Hammerstein’s The King and I.) Other hobbies include photography, sewing (especially quilting), and hiking. She shares her home with her husband, Ron, and their feline family.
Dr. Chelsea Kiser – D.V.M.
Dr. Chelsea Kiser graduated with a degree in Biology from Boise State University in 2007 and graduated magna cum laude with her DVM degree from Colorado State University in 2012. She completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at Oregon State University before joining our team. Dr. Kiser is very passionate about feline medicine and received the TLC for the Love of Cats Veterinary Scholarship all four years of veterinary school, was the president of the student AAFP club, and also received the AAFP Senior Student Award upon graduation from vet school. She particularly enjoys geriatric feline medicine and hopes to become board certified in feline practice in the future.
Family is a huge part of Dr. Kiser’s life. She shares her home with two mischievous cats, two great kids, and her wonderful husband. Outside of work, Dr. Kiser spends most of her time playing with her kids and enjoying the outdoors.
Dr. Jessica Brown – D.V.M.
Dr. Jessica Brown grew up in Rhode Island, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies and Linguistics from the University of Rhode Island and a DVM degree from the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013.
Prior to veterinary school, she worked as a technician at a feline-only practice in where she fell in love with feline medicine. Dr. Brown plans to pursue board certification in feline practice.
Dr. Brown enjoys swimming, playing bass guitar, attending live concerts, vegan cooking and baking, and collecting records and antique cat figurines. She lives in Long Beach with her husband, cats, dogs and records.
Dr. Lan Xiao – D.V.M.
Dr. Lan Xiao is a huge cat lover. She grew up in Southern California and obtained her undergraduate degree in Biology from UCLA. She later received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from UC Davis in 2012. While in veterinary school, she spent her free time bottle-feeding orphaned kittens and finding them new homes.
Dr. Lan has been working in Small Animal Companion Medicine since graduation, but she has always harbored a special love for feline medicine.
When not at work, Dr. Lan enjoys movies, books, music, various craft projects, and spoiling her kitties. She looks forward to working with our clients and their beloved felines.
Dr. Maggie Mills – D.V.M.
Dr. Maggie Mills grew up in Frankfort, Kentucky. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences at Auburn University in 2013. She loved Auburn so much that she stayed to earn her DVM from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2017.
During veterinary school, she was known as the “crazy cat lady” of her class. She discovered her passion for feline medicine after doing an externship at a cat-only practice in Kentucky. After vet school, she decided to make the big move out West to join The Cat Care Clinic team and to pursue her passion for feline medicine. She particularly enjoys feline behavior and cardiology. She plans to become board certified in feline medicine in the future. She also has a special fondness for Sphynx cats and hopes to have one of her own someday!
When she’s not working, Dr. Mills enjoys spending time with her cat, a fabulous orange tabby named Charlie, and her crazy-but-lovable terrier mix Sophie. She also loves martial arts, cooking, reading, and spending time outdoors in the beautiful California weather!
