Veterinary Technicians

 quote

The veterinary technician is an integral member of the veterinary health care team who has been educated in the care and handling of animals, the basic principles of normal and abnormal life processes, and in routine laboratory and clinical procedures.

All veterinary technicians work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.  While a veterinary technician can assist in performing a wide variety of tasks, they cannot diagnose, prescribe, perform surgery, or engage in any activity prohibited by the California Veterinary Practice Act.

In private practice a veterinary technician handles many of the same responsibilities that nurses and other professionals perform for physicians

They are trained to

  • Obtain and record patient case histories
  • Collect specimens and perform laboratory procedures.
  • Provide specialized nursing care
  • Prepare animals, instruments, and equipment for surgery
  • Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures
  • Expose and process radiographs
  • Advise and educate pet owners
  • Perform dental procedure

Tiffany
Tiffany has always been an admirer of any species furry, creepy, crawly, and slimy. She got her BS degree in marine biology at UC Santa Cruz and was ready to pursue her dreams in that vocation, but realized she got sea sick and did not like the aspect of long hours in a lab with minimal interaction with the outside animal world. She then decided to pursue a career that was more practical, close to home, but still in touch with her animal-loving side and got her RVT license. She has not regretted that decision and loves working with kitties at the clinic.

Melinda
Melinda graduated from Mt. San Antonio College in 2012 and became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2014 after passing both her CA and National Registered Veterinary Technology boards. She pursued a career working with animals because of her compassion to help animals and her childhood dream. Although she has a passion for all animals she chose to work at our clinic for the opportunity to work with just cats and for the learning atmosphere of a feline only specialty. Melinda shares her home with her kitties Lola, Layla, Delilah and her dog Piper. In her spare time you will find Melinda taking Piper hiking, camping or to the beach.
